My Implementation

      Creating a classroom for diverse learning was super important after coming back from a year and a half of virtual learning. My students’ learning habits were varied. I needed to come to my students in the way they learned best.  Beginning the year I asked my students to write down assignments or learning activities they enjoyed most and how they learned best. Many students shared that they like to have interactive games and visuals to support their learning. I used this information collected from my students to make learning as diverse as possible.

      We focused on small groups to ensure students were learning at their level at a guided pace throughout the year. From there, we allowed students to have options on how they presented or completed their assignments. Providing the students with choice gave them a say in their education making it more meaningful to the students. I focused this school year around UDL, universal design for learning. While focusing on UDL tactics I came up with various ways to reach the students with videos, music, anchor charts, learning games and guided notes.

Small Groups: I utilized small group time to effectively reach my students based on their iReady scores. I looked at the literacy data which helped me group students who were achieving similar learning targets.

Setting Clear Objectives:

Setting clear objectives helped all my students succeed in the classroom. In the beginning of the school year I asked my students to write down how they learn best. I was able to implement clear objectives verbally and visually. Not only that but, I kept my directions short, simple and step-by-step.

Scaffold and choice:

To begin any week my students needed a direct example of what work was expected. I had to scaffold all new work;

 later allowing my students to successfully complete work on their own. Once students moved into independent work, I gave options for their assignments. This assignment was a quiz to tell or show certain parts of the chapter from the Novel Bud, Not Buddy.
