Reflective Practitioner

“Effective urban educators are Reflective Practitioners who can accurately assess themselves and develop plans for improvement.”

My Implementation

I was always ready and excited to begin my student teaching and get to work in the actual classroom. I didn’t realize how much I would gain and grow from the internship. I constantly found myself reflecting on the day, week, or month of teaching. During our prep my mentor and I would reflect on how my lesson went; what went well and what I’d like to change for next time. After each coach's observation we had time to reflect on how my lesson went for each observation. I’ve learned a lot during student teaching, but taking the time to pause and reflect to help myself as I move through finding new techniques and implementing fun ideas helped the most. I listened to student responses/ questions and how I responded and thought of better ways to communicate with my class. Reading over their assessments helped show me where students were lacking and areas we needed to touch on again. I was able to come to my next lessons already prepared for what my own expectations were for myself and my students. As well my students benefited by getting a better lesson each time. Reflection is important. I reviewed student work, my lessons, my videos recordings, and even sometimes on Instagram to be open and honest with my student teaching journey.
